This may be old news to many of you, but Disney's "John Carter" (recently changed from "John Carter of Mars") now has a new poster and release date - March 9, 2012!The title character will be played by Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights), and the film is directed by Andrew Stanton, who also directed "Finding Nemo" and "Wall-E," and will be his first live-action film.
John Carter is the main character in the 11-volume "Barsoom" series, written by Edgar Rice Burroughs. The movie is based on the first novel in the series, ("A Princess of Mars") in which John Carter, a Civil War Veteran, goes to sleep in a cave in the desert and wakes up on Mars, or Barsoom as the inhabitants call it. Through many adventures, he saves a princess and ultimately the very planet itself, as every self-respecting hero should. (Did I just make John Carter sound like Mario? I think I did...)
I am very much looking forward to this movie, and I think the poster is amazing, even if it is a bit simplistic.
