Teaser Tuesday - The Casual Vacancy by J K Rowling

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just:
* Grab your current read
* Open to a random page
* Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author, too, so that other Teaser Tuesday participants can add the book to their To Be Read (TBR) Lists if they like your teasers!

----------

Last week I started reading The Casual Vacancy by J K Rowling.  I've been curious to see how she would do writing outside of the Harry Potter world, and I have to say, so far it's not bad!  This week my tease is from the opening paragraph of the novel.

The Tease:
 "Barry Fairbrother did not want to go out to dinner.  He had endured a thumping headache for most of the weekend and was struggling to make a deadline for the local paper.  However, his wife had been a little stiff and uncommunicative over lunch, and Barry deduced that his anniversary card had not mitigated the crime of shutting himself away in the study all morning. It did not help that he had been writing about Krystal, whom Mary disliked, although she pretended otherwise."

What's your Tease?

  10. Well I read it, as much as I could stand, and I can tell you it was not the best anniversary! Thanks for popping in.

    I was disappointed in the storyline of The Casual Vacancy, but not in J K's writing ability. I will read another of hers for sure.
