Teaser Tuesday - The Mirror and the Mask

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title and author, too, so that other Teaser Tuesday participants can add the book to their To Be Read (TBR) Lists if they like your teasers!

Here's mine:
"Backing away, Jane slid down the rise and sprinted across the road, back to the safety of the woods.  She took out her cell and tapped in 911, swearing under her breath when she saw that it wasn't connecting.  No bars appeared in the corner of the screen."
--The Mirror and the Mask: A Jane Lawless Mystery, by Ellen Hart.

  2. This, for some reason, reminds me of William Gibson's introduction to his own Neuromancer, set in the future; a very tense scene pivots on a row of pay phones, which is not particularly heard of in this day. I wonder how our thrillers will age as technology marches on?

    I hope you enjoy this!

  3. Clare - What an interesting thought! I'm reminded of the 2004 movie Cellular (Kim Bassinger, Chris Evans), and the novel Cell by Stephen King, which both use the cell phone as a pivotal plot point!
