Teaser Tuesday - Great North Road, by Peter F Hamilton

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just:
* Grab your current read
* Open to a random page
* Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
* BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
* Share the title and author, too, so that other Teaser Tuesday participants can add the book to their To Be Read (TBR) Lists if they like your teasers!

I'm reading Great North Road, by Peter F Hamilton, and I'm quite enjoying it.  The main portion of the story is a murder mystery - and the death may be connected to a previous murder years before.  In this scene, the prisoner Angela and here escort travel through the gate from Earth to St. Libra to begin their search for the alien she claims is responsible for the murders she was accused of so long ago...

The Tease:

"Angela was already searching the sky.  "There," she said simply.  Paresh followed her gaze.  St. Libra's sky was a clean deep turquoise, and somehow seemed to be a whole lot higher than Earth's.  He barely noticed that.  Slicing right across the northern sky like some kind of magical veil was the planet's phenomenal ring system."

I've begun reading Great North Road, by Peter F Hamilton, and I'm quite enjoying it so far.  The main portion of the story is a murder mystery - and the death may be connected to a previous murder years before.  In this scene, Angela - who was accused of the previous murder - remembers a disturbing moment from the scene of the crime that she claims she didn't commit...

The Tease:

"The monster was square in the center.  Humanoid, with dark, hard skin mimicking a human's contours, hands opening.  The blades expanding as they straightened out, growing to fill the entire screen.
Angela gasped.  It was her memory.  They'd taken her memory from her, pulled it right out of her skull with their diabolical machine and filthy drugs."

I've finally finished reading Words of Radiance, by Brandon Sanderson (fantastic novel!), and I've switched gears from Fantasy to Sci-Fi, and have moved on to another door stopper - Great North Road, by Peter F Hamilton.  At 990 pages, it's not quite as large as Words of Radiance - but it's close!  Today, our Tease is from the opening paragraph of the book.

The Tease:

"As midnight approached, the wild neon colors of the borealis storm came shimmering through the soft snow falling gently across Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.  It was as if nature were partying along with the rest of the city, providing a jade-and-carmine light show far more elegant than any of the fireworks that had been bursting sporadically above the rooftops since Friday."
